Why it matters

Need a chartered surveyor or valuer in Wendover?

Yes. Wendover is part of the area we cover across Buckinghamshire. It is a market town at the foot of the Chiltern escarpment, five miles south-east of Aylesbury, set in the gap where the old road across the hills meets the route along their foot, with Chiltern Railways to Marylebone. Its centre is a conservation area of listed 16th and 17th-century cottages and Georgian houses, with Victorian, interwar and later twentieth-century housing spreading north, and substantial detached homes on the hills around. Websters is a firm of RICS chartered surveyors and registered valuers, and our surveyors know this market well.

Local knowledge

What we see in Wendover property

Wendover’s housing stock

Wendover has an unusually intact historic centre: listed timber-framed and thatched cottages, a broad Georgian High Street running up to the church and the market square, almost all of it inside the conservation area. Around it are Victorian and interwar houses, the housing built for RAF Halton personnel nearby, and the larger estates that went up to the north of the town in the later twentieth century, with substantial detached houses on the surrounding hills. Values rose notably after the 1998 bypass took the A413 out of the narrow streets.

Listed & period stock: usually a Level 3

Home surveys lead what we do here, and the older stock generally needs a Level 3 Building Survey rather than a Level 2 — timber frames, thatch and Georgian brick bring their own roof, timber, movement and damp issues. In the conservation area and on listed buildings, alterations need listed-building and conservation consent, so on any extended property we check what was done and whether it was properly approved, along with the Chilterns AONB constraints on anything further.

Chalk, the scarp foot & HS2

Wendover sits on shallow soils over chalk at the foot of the escarpment, with the Vale's heavier ground beginning just to the north — so on the lower, flatter streets we weigh surface-water flooding and damp, and near mature trees on the heavier ground, shrink–swell movement. The Wendover Arm of the Grand Union Canal runs through the town. And HS2 passes immediately west of the town in tunnel, beside the bypass, so on nearby streets we note it as a matter to confirm through the searches.

Common questions

Wendover surveyors — your questions

Yes — Wendover, Halton, Weston Turville, Aston Clinton and the streets across HP22, an area we cover. Much of our team works across Buckinghamshire; when you instruct us, an RICS surveyor who knows the area inspects the property.

Much of our team works across Buckinghamshire, so we can usually arrange a survey or valuation in Wendover within a few working days, and often sooner. Tell us the address and the report you need and we will confirm availability when we quote.

On a listed, timber-framed or thatched cottage we recommend a Level 3 Building Survey — the roof and thatch, the frame and any movement, damp and the practicalities of an old building. We flag listed-building and conservation-area consents and the Chilterns AONB constraints on any extension, and where relevant the proximity of the HS2 route to the west of the town, to be confirmed through the searches.

Home surveys start from £750 + VAT, valuations from £550 + VAT and leasehold reform valuations from £550 + VAT; Party Wall work is priced by scope. We give a fixed quote once we know the property and the report you need.
