Giving back to the communities we serve
We're proud to run a charitable arm. To date, Websters Surveyors has donated over £30,000 to deserving causes across London and beyond.
Where this comes from
Dan Knowles FRICS · Founder & Managing Director
Our commitment to giving back isn't a corporate policy. It's personal — and it starts with me.
When I was sixteen, I spent around half a year homeless. My family had escaped a household of domestic abuse, and we found ourselves living in women's refuges — my mum, my much younger siblings and me. It was the late 1990s, when the country was promised that "things can only get better". Whatever your politics, for my family, in time, they did.
But first came true poverty. The first hostel housed eleven women and twenty-three children; at sixteen, I was the oldest child there. The four of us lived on around £170 a week in benefits, much of which the hostel took back. Those places were not safe — there were break-ins and drugs, and I received death threats — all while I sat my GCSEs at a grammar school, where I held a state-assisted place.
People say that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. For me, it did. That time made me who I am, and it keeps me grounded.
That's why we give. And it's why we always will.
