Of course you would. It’s sensible to spend a bit to make sure what you’re buying is what you think you’re buying. Similarly, when you are spending hundreds of thousand of pounds if not more on a property, if not more, something that you cannot return to the seller, it’s surely worthwhile getting it checked out before you do.
Buying a home will most probably be the most expensive purchase of your lifetime and therefore you want to make sure it is the right one. Unfortunately, some homes that appear to be in good condition may have underlying defects that the seller may not be aware of or may be hoping that you don’t find out about. As the buyer, you would want to know before committing to the purchase.

Statutory tax valuations
Getting a Property Market Valuation may be the last thing you want to do when you’re already going to be paying tax, possibly due to Inheritance or a Capital Gain. However, if you’ve been advised to do so to satisfy HMRC, it’s important to get it right.
The Market Valuation should be robust. It should be detailed. It should support its findings with relevant evidence. To help ensure that it meets these requirements, thereby rendering it defensible to HMRC, it should be carried out in compliance with the RICS Red Book, the gold standard of Valuation reporting.
In most cases, that will mean provision by a qualified Surveyor, an RICS Registered Valuer.
