Bushey is really three distinct settlements. The historic High Street village core is densely built and forms a conservation area; Bushey Heath, on the elevated ridge towards Stanmore, holds the larger detached houses and commands the highest values; and North Bushey is more suburban in character. Between them they hold the most diverse range of building types in the borough — Victorian houses, interwar semis, some of the borough’s earliest (1920s) council housing, substantial detached homes and pockets of new-build — and Bushey has the highest number of locally listed buildings in Hertsmere, along with the well-known Bushey Rose Garden and an artistic heritage from the Herkomer art school.
