Kisharon is a local charity predominantly based in Hendon, Golders Green and Stamford Hill. The provide aid, education and jobs to children and young adults with special needs. Their vision is that people with learning difficulties will live in a world where they have the same opportunities as their mainstream peers.
Kisharon was founded in 1976 to provide an education for children with learning disabilities. Today, Kisharon offers opportunity and support as well as education to adults and children with complex and profound learning disabilities. Individuals supported by Kisharon are taught the skills they need to live independently within the community and to lead fulfilling lives. Kisharon offers lifelong learning by teaching life skills and giving greater independence to those it helps.
Jonathan chose the charity having seen some of their work first hand as his sister attended their school. Jonathan met some of the students and peer workers at their new premises in Child’s Hill. Barnet Council were due to close the library but Kisharon took the building over and now have some of the pupils running the library. They have also fully adapted the building to be disability friendly and recently installed a state of the art IT suite and now run IT and email courses.
Pictured here are Jonathan Nesbitt and some of the pupils that took Jonathan around the library.
